Tristan Sauer

Tristan Sauer is a New Media Artist and Curator exploring technology, capitalism, and our digital and physical worlds through an Afro-futuristic lens. Cellphones and other screen-based devices are powerful tools made for connection. To connect us to information, the world, and each other. These forms of connection, those that are experienced only through screens, are also forms of tangible disconnection. Allowing us to view events from around the world, while also acting as a barrier between us, and them and real tangible forms of grieving, healing, and helping. This piece aims to explore the connective and dis-connective experience of viewing global tragedies through screens in our current age of social media. This project is an interactive AR experience that requires the use of the Artitive app to view in full form. Audience members may scan the panels to unlock new interactions.

Reflecting on his project and the opportunity to exhibit his work at a large scale in the TTC, Tristan states, “I have had the wonderful experience of experimenting with new software and ways of creating throughout this project that has already expanded my artistic practice beyond what it was before.” He has expressed his excitement in this work, saying, “It feels extremely rewarding and exciting to be given such a large and public platform that has the potential to be seen by hundreds of people a day. I am extremely excited to hear and witness public reactions and interpretations of my work.”
